Cute Cuddly Baby Bree

A series of crazy mishaps caused a major delay, but I finally got my chance to photograph my new friend Bree, daughter of Michael & Jamie.  I had to wait 6 long weeks for the opportunity.  Nonetheless, it was a delightful experience.  Bree is now beyond her sweet little newborn phase, and she is becoming an adorable little baby girl with a cute little personality.  It is truly amazing how fast babies develop.  They grow and change every single day.  And, I’m beginning to have trouble dealing with the brevity of childhood.  Because all of the important people in my life have recently become parents, I worry that all the babies will be grown up before I am able to make my next visit.  I worry that my nephews and nieces will grow up without knowing who I am or how much I love them and care about them.  This fact makes me want to be there for everything.  Yet I know that there are just too few hours in a day, too few days in a week, and too few weeks in a month to spend as much time with them as I would like.  So I cherish every moment I spend with all these baby bundles, hoping that they won’t grow up too fast.

So meet sweet little Bree:

I love these Black & Whites.  They are all shot Black & White in camera.  They are not Photoshop conversions from color.  I like the depth of shadow that they offer.  In addition, all of these were shot using only natural window light.  I love how they portray their little family in their own natural setting, Bree’s nursery.

Auntie Rie’s Adventures in Babysitting

My sister had to spend a couple days in the hospital this week, so it called for the rest of the family to step up to the plate and help out with her boys.  Of  course, Auntie Rie (that’s what my nieces and nephews are required to call me) was eager to take her turn to watch them.  Kingston and Kane are 14 month old twins, and they are utterly cute and lovable.  They have the sweetest smiles you have ever seen, and they are full of hugs and kisses.  Thank goodness they are over their biting stage…I heard that was real nightmare!

Anyway, while we were waiting for cousin Brayden to come over and play, I decided to clean out the refrigerator for my sister.  No room for the juice I brought over prompted my action.  I don’t know what possessed me to try to accomplish this task while watching 14 month old twin boys.  Now that I look back, I must have been out of my ever-lovin’ mind!  But, all went well.  I excelled as a babysitter!  I can’t believe how well I did.  In addition to the fridge cleaning, I managed to do a little laundry, wash dishes, clean the living room and the boys’ bedroom.  All the while, I was able to keep the the boys clean, fed and entertained.   Sometimes I forget that I once had mad babysitting skills….I watched my baby brother & sister nearly every day of my teenage years.  And, I do have 5 younger siblings; no wonder I rocked it!

I wanted to document the events of the day, so I kept my camera nearby while we were cleaning and playing.  I had to put the boysin different colors so that I could tell them apart quickly, but my sister normally dresses them alike.  So, Kingston is in the red shirt.  Kane required a change of clothes midway through the morning because he spilled juice all over himself, so you’ll see him in both a green shirt and a blue striped shirt.  In the end, Kingston and Kane love their super fun Auntie Rie because she lets them play in the refrigerator.  Ashley, here’s the proof:

April 4, 2009 - 7:30 pm Von DeVore - You have got to be the best sitter around! I certainly wouldn't have have contemplated all those tasks WHILE watching toddlers AND taking photos!

April 4, 2009 - 8:15 pm admin - Thanks! My photos aren't perfect. Chasing 14 month old twins with a camera in one hand and a wash cloth in the other doesn't make for great composition. However, it did make my sister happy. Everyone enjoyed seeing the boys playing in the refrigerator.

April 6, 2009 - 10:41 am Leslie Tripp - OMG!! These have got to be some of the cutest pics of the boys!!!

July 3, 2009 - 8:22 am ashley mcbride - yes, cherie does take fantastic pictures and she is the best auntie ever. the pictures of kingston and kane are fantastic, wish they would have had matching nicer outfits on since they're on the website, but thats ok. they're still soo handsome. thank you so much sister for watching them that week and for always taking the best pictures of my boys. i love you!!!

July 3, 2009 - 3:32 pm admin - I wish that I could have dressed them in cuter clothes, too. But, Kane kept pulling the top off of his bottle and spilled juice all over himself and Kingston. So, we ran out of clothes that day that were appropriate for playing at home. On the other hand, I had to dress them in different colored shirts. I couldn't tell them apart unless I stared each one square in the face, so dressing them in different shirts made it possible for me to yell out the appropriate name to the child that was being bad. Ha! Sis, I love you, too!

CI Photobooth - Just keeps popping up…

Okay, I probably should not be so excited about this.  We use Google Adwords as a marketing tool for CI Photobooth.  Weeks ago, while logged into my account, I noticed the opportunity to build a banner ad.  Well, today while I was signing up as a Vendor at WeddingWire.com, I typed in “St. Louis Photobooth” in their search area.  Then, I saw it!  The Banner Ad that I created through Google Adwords showed up at the top of the page, above all of the content.  Now, I’m sure that no one has clicked on the banner, but I was uber excited to see my pretty little banner show up.  This is what I saw:

google-banner-ad1

I just couldn’t believe it when I saw it.  Up to this point, I had not seen my banner ad on a single website.  And frankly, I never expected to.  Google is such a mystery to me, but I now know that it works just like it says that it will.

If you are working on building up your business’ web exposure, I highly recommend Google Adwords.  They do their job!

Congratulations to the Y98 Mega Wedding Winners: Ryan & Liz

We had a blast at the Y98 Mega Wedding last Friday evening. It was nearly the last minute when Liz’s amazing parents contacted us about renting our photo booth, but we were more than happy to take care of their family. And, we are so glad that we did!

It turns out that Ryan and Liz only learned that they were voted the winners just a few weeks before they were scheduled to tie the knot. It’s no wonder that they won…they are just that great! More than once, I scanned the room, only to find Ryan displaying his ‘Mr. Personality’ moves on the dance floor!!! He has the ability to evoke laughter from within the deepest parts of a person’s soul; full belly laughs!!!  He was having loads of fun, and it was more than obvious.  And then, there’s Liz…she has this beautiful smile that just lights up the room.  You can see that her parents set a fine example for her.  Liz is just as kind and sweet as they are, and it’s not surprising that she has such great and loyal friends.  Ryan and Liz are great people and the make a truly awesome couple.  You can read more about their story and view photos at www.y98megawedding.com.

There was a feeling of love and happiness in the air that night, and all of the details were just exquisite.  Congratulations, Ryan & Liz!  Thank you for choosing us to help you preserve your wedding memories.  We are ever so grateful.

By the way, we love the print style that Liz & Ryan chose for their photo booth prints.  They decided on a chocolate brown and sage damask background with their names and wedding date.  It looked amazing, and I’m proud to show it off…

Thank Goodness, I thought I broke my blog…

I’m so excited to be back up and running.  A few weeks ago, I tried to change some things in my hosting acocunt, and I really messed up.  I attempted to add a website and move my blog.  Well, it didn’t work, and I literally thought that I lost everything.  Thankfully, that wasn’t the case.  I just forgot to point the domain name server to my hosting account.  When I figured out what had gone wrong, I clicked the magic button, and voila! my blog lives again!  I’m so happy.

I’m so excited, and I can’t wait to share my latest photo session with you.  My amazing and beautiful friends Jamie and Michael were kind enough to let me use them as my guinea pigs.  Jamie is due to give birth to a baby girl in the next few weeks, so she and Michael modeled for me.  They were up for anything that I wanted to try and did everything that I told them to.  In the end, I’m extremely happy with the results.  We got a lot of great shots, and I’m proud to show them off.    Here’s a sneak peek, more to follow in a few days.

February 12, 2009 - 11:32 am Von DeVore - Aaaah. How cute!

So Excited!!!

Okay, today is a huge day for me-I got to quit my day job!!!  The funny thing is, I owned the business that I have decided to leave behind.  For the past three years, I have been offering commerical photography services to real estate agents and builders.  In the end, I was completely overwhelmed with work that made me unhappy.  Everytime I went to photograph a house, I came home feeling disappointed with my lot in life.  I was clearly uninspired, and that was depressing.  Earlier this month, I notified all of my real estate clients that I would no longer be offering photography services for their market.  And today, well it was glorious!  Why?  Because I photographed my very last house, and I vow that I will never do it again for monetary gain.

Now, I have more time available to spend with the people that I love, doing the things that I love.  I plan to offer maternity, baby and child photography services and will pursue that on a part-time basis.  I am currently working on building my portfolio, and I will soon be looking for models to help me fill it up.  Keep on the watch, as I will announce a casting call in the coming months.  I will be looking for maternity models in their 7th or 8th month of pregnancy, newborns, and toddlers.  Session fees will be waived and image files will be made available at a reduced rate.

And, I have one more reason to be excited.  David and I are in the process of adding another photo booth to our arsenal.  We are currently working with a custom fabricator who has come up with what might be the most perfect “traveling” photo booth design we have yet to see.  We have researched hundreds of design options throughout the US, and we have not seen anything that offers the portability and flexibility that we have grown accustomed to.  Thus, we had no other choice than to work with another custom builder to design and build our new booth.  They have totally amazed us with the design concept, and we are ecstatic about debuting the new booth (or two) early this year.  I simply cannot wait, but I suppose I have no choice!

Stay tuned…

January 31, 2009 - 8:16 pm Von DeVore - Good for you! Congratulations. Now on to the next phase.

Ah, the memories…

I am the oldest of 6 children in my family…not that any of us are children anymore.  In fact, half of the gang has their own kiddos now.  Along the way, we learned that the only way to survive is to be there for each other, through it all.

I am extremly close to my family.  I love my brothers and sisters, each and every one of them!  Heather, Lee, Ashley, RaeAnn and Tommy, my heart teems with love for you.  We have been through a lot together, and we share some amazing memories.  While some memories are of painful times, they are almost always followed by memories of triumph.  Other memories are preceeded by chaos, but they are nearly always followed by memories of family togetherness.  And the silly memories filled with laughter, they live on stronger than any other.  Just so that you know, I cherish the time that we spent together as kids.  You made me yell; you made me cry; you made me smile; you made me giggle; you made me belly laugh; you made me pee my pants with laughter; most of all, you make me proud.

My dad has been absent from our lives for quite some time.  When he left our family, he took along nearly all of our childhood photos.  So, when he came for a visit a couple years ago, you can imagine how elated we were when we discovered that he had brought hundreds of photos with him.  I could not have been more thankful to him for that.  All of a sudden the lost memories came flooding back.  My sister took the time to scan a number of photos that he brought, and she forwarded digital copies along to the rest of us.  She just reminded me of how cool I was, by posting a couple shots on Facebook.  I don’t know whether I should be laugh or be mortified.  Frankly, I love these pictures, and I wouldn’t trade them for the world.

I remember this day vividly!  We were at my Grandparent’s old farmhouse in Cedar Hill.  My Dad came for a visit.  I was wearing his sunglasses, and check out my matching socks and jacket!  What do you think about my 80’s ipod?  Ah, the good ol’ Walkman!  I think that I had Bon Jovi’s cassette tape playing…”Livin’ on a prayer.”  My sister, Heather, was rocking the flip-flops before they were rad…she still lives in them, just a bigger pair.  And, Lee it’s funny to see you looking a little short and round…Ah, the memories!  We were the cool kids, for sure!

That’s me at the top.  Here, we are hanging with our cousins in our Sunday’s best.  Lee and Heather are on the far right.  Heather & Lee, you may have been the two cutest kids on the earth.  Heather’s button nose and tiny freckles were to die for, and Lee was the prettiest boy I’ve ever seen.  He still has those pretty red lips and eyes that pierce your soul.

Ashley, RaeAnn & Tommy, you’ll have to wait…I’ll find some pics of you, too.  I’ll start my search through my old photo boxes soon.

Birth Announcements

We will soon be debuting our Babies & Bellies portait site, and I have decided to offer custom designed birth announcements.  Since Emily was my most recent newborn shoot, I thought I would put one of my new designs to work with her photos.

I love the antique feel of this design and photos.  Emily makes a perfect little model; Mindy and Luke aren’t too bad either!  This design will be 5 x 5 trifold printed on pearlized paper.  I’m so excited to see the final product.  I can’t wait until they arrive.

Meet Luke & the rest of the Family

Yesterday, I posted a photo of Baby Emily and her mommy, Mindy.  Mindy just so happens to be one of my favorite cousins, and she is just naturally beautiful.  I know this because her face is flawless without make-up, and you would never know that she just gave birth three weeks ago.  She’s just that amazing.

Anyway, I promised that I would give Luke some attention, too.  At first, Luke didn’t really want to cooperate with the process.  Getting him to smile a real smile was difficult.  He kept trying to squint his big beautiful blue eyes, and I just couldn’t let that happen.  His eyes really are remarkable.  So, Mindy came up with a great idea.  She whispered in his ear, and told him to call me silly names.  Of course, I didn’t mind at all!  He could tell me that I was stinky all day long, so long as he would give me a genuine giggle.  He tried all kinds of things to get me to laugh.  Little did he know that it was causing him to laugh, too.  That worked far better than me trying to make him laugh, since he is a serious little boy.

So the time has come, meet Luke:

Gorgeous Girls! - Sneak Peek

On Sunday afternoon, I had the opportunity to photograph my cousin Mindy and her young family.  I have always been in love with her son Luke’s huge smile and bright blue eyes.  But, I just found a new love.  I was introduced to Baby Emily for the first time.  She was nearing three weeks of age, so we had to get her first photo shoot in quick.  It’s tough to photograph newborns that are older than two weeks because they sleep less and move around more.  Brand new babies also snuggle up really well.  Emily got a little upset when we stripped her down, but we calmed her down pretty quick by lying her down on a heated blanket.  She just curled right up and went to sleep.

Little Emily was still just 6lbs & 8oz, so she was still really tiny.  She has the tiniest little features, and is nearly perfect.  And, while big brother Luke acts like he doesn’t like babies, he did a great job pretending that he loved his new baby sister.  I was so proud of the little man, who likes to be called ‘Shark Boy’.  Luke turns 4 years old this week.  Stay tuned for shots of Luke and the rest of the family later, but I wanted to make sure that I got this shot up of Mindy & Emily right away.  Mindy, I wanted you to see just how beautiful you are.
